Fickle In Love

For years now I've been jealously peering into Fickle, just and outside observer. I found myself basking in glow of pink lights and happy faces.  How I longed to have a romantic night out there, with my lover. Endless hints dropped fell upon deaf ears. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and initiate myself. But was it as satisfying as I built it up to be?

Their website (http://www.fickleonline.com) describes the atmosphere are romantic. It is unmistakably so. Their walls covered in a heart and clover theme, would surely send a message to anyone you are courting. That is, not to say that Fickle is not the perfect place for brunch with friends. Its fun demeanour makes it loveable and unpretentious. The restaurant has a somewhat futuristic feel to it. Its` white furniture reflects the lighting (especially the white tables polished to a shine), giving the whole place and illuminated glow. Very much like an after-hours lounge, too bad they close at 11 pm.

(a deceptively huge portion )
To drink I had a Vietnamese coffee, which they had brought out to steep in front of me. This is, if you don’t know, delicious and rich coffee with condensed milk. It is crowned with a neat little contraption that brews your coffee perfectly.(Things like this I always love, like hot pot and Korean BBQ). My date had a mixed cocktail. This by his accounts was delicious. Both of the drinks arrived in less than ten minutes of ordering.

To eat we both had the Fickle’s house special pho. Its’ soothing broth instantly calmed the cold I’ve had for the better part of two weeks. Topped generously with various meaty goodies, (i.e. meat balls, tripe, finely sliced beef). The only down side is that it was a bit vegetable-poor, even taking to account the tray of bean sprouts offered with it. The portion was large, and seemed to be a good value for its price.

Service was friendly and polite. We were sat promptly shortly after entering. Mind you, we didn't come during peak hours. The wait staff there all seemed to be in their mid to early twenties. All dressed in jeans and black t-shirts. Perhaps a little green, but full of enthusiasm.

On a side note I have to bring up these mixed reviews I've been reading everywhere about Fickle. It’s not just Fickle in particular. There is a trend of online hate towards businesses. I think it’s in part to do with the anonymity of the internet. I feel like the people who complain have no idea what it’s like from the staff’s perspective. A little kindness goes a long way. I guess theres also the flipside, places like Amy's Baking Company, just sayin'.

(a reasonable bill)
Delicious Vietnamese-Chinese-Thai served on cloud nine, at a reasonable price.
