Black lips need not be chalky or waxy,the days of dollar store and halloween black lipstick are in the past now. The fall trend of dark pouty lips is one I can really get behind. I had been doing some research on the subject and couldn't help but be intrigued by http://portlandblacklipstickco.com. They carry a variety of unusual colours from neon-ish green to white. So naturally I had to check it out. To be honest though, I had received my order from portland black lipstick co. some time ago, so this is a little late. Sadly I haven't been able to wear it as often as I'd like, since its not really a subtle look.
Some things to note about black and dark lip colours; they make your teeth look yellow , and will shrink small lips. If you want to wear a bold shade, remember to scrub your lips! Nothing looks worse than a flaky lip, powerful colors will draw more attention to it. For now I use my Yes to Blueberries facial scrub, but I'm lusting after LUSH's popcorn lip scrub (yum).

Perhaps this is a two part review, since I went out and bought No Bleeding Lips, secret lip liner. I feel like I need the extra protection when I wear these guys. The pencil is silicone based and invisible. I'm not really a lip liner person so an all in one really saves me money. The weird thing is that you apply it to the outside of your lip line as to lock in colour. It leaves a kind of waxy physical barrier to prevent any slip ups.

The lipstick itself came in an unassuming chapstick container, say for the samples that were slices of lipstick in a plastic baggie. To be more precise I used a lip brush. They have a minty smell and tingle on the lips. Surprisingly they are very creamy going on, and don't dry out my lips throughout the night. I like the amount of pigment in the formula as well. I find that some black lipsticks go on more transparent than they look in the tube.*cough* Urban Decay in oil slick *cough*
I was kind of afraid that dark lipsticks would shrink my already small lips. Somehow they seem more full. Beautiful rich colours and pigment, I am thoroughly impressed. I definitely will get a full size of Undead Red! The lipstick itself has a higher than normal staying power, but don't expect miracles. What impressed me the most was the free sample of body glitter I received for a longer than normal wait time. (I ordered when they were on vacay.) Kim Damio (the proprietor even wrote me a thank you on my enclosed bill). Now thats how you run a business.
