SoCal style, made in Italy

Brandy Melville. Have you heard about this place? I've seen it near the food courts in my favorite mall for several months, and never had any particular interest. This was mainly because their displays showcased a very girly soft style (i.e. breezy skater dresses, and a muted color palate). I found it peculiar that it didn't register in my mental database as well. So of course I had to go in. You don’t know if you'll like something if you never try it, right?

The store has a kind of rustic-cool theme to it. Its build with what looks to be reclaimed wood, and is decorated with worn wooden signs and vintage glass bottles. Their clothing is casual, with an airy beach feeling. They have lots of crop tops, and graphic prints. I was a bit surprised that the clothing they were selling was so light. They didn't have much fall/ winter clothes even though it was so late in the season. They did carry some vintage stuff as well (mostly flannels from what I saw). A lot of their clothing is of one-size-fits all, which had me scratching my head for a minute. The style of clothes has a nice drape, with a flattering slouchy fit.  The store is on the pricey end of the spectrum ($20-$100). This, considering it’s for a younger crowd, seems a bit steep. It’s slightly cheaper than urban outfitters, for about the same quality.

When trying on some of BM's (lol) tanks, I noticed that they hang at all the right places. So I snagged this cute donut print crop (great, another thing I can’t wear to work), and a zodiac print tank. I bought a vintage men's flannel as well, good condition.  I love that ol' vintage smell, smells like nostalgia <3.

After I got home I did some research on the store, and was a bit surprised that they didn't have more self-released media. It turns out that instead of releasing a more traditional ad campaign they rely on social media and word of mouth. A smart move, in my opinion.

An article I read in HuffingtonPost, makes reference to their “anti-mean girl” attitude when it comes to their customers. Hence their clothes being one-size fits all. They cast aside traditional social conventions of fashionable kids being elitist. This is a pleasant change when compared to companies like Abercrombie and Fitch that pride themselves on the exact opposite. I did find that some of the articles of clothing run a bit small on me, though I consider myself to be thin, (size 6 tops, and size 8 bottoms). Keep in mind that this is a store for girls in their young teens.

I went over to Old Navy to grab some straight-leg jeans (shown in the picture above), and saw these dc themed headphones. For $20 I couldn't resist. The quality of them is pretty nice too. I'm a pretty big batman fan. (DAMN YOU BEN AFFLECK! I'll never accept you. No one will...)
